Tachinid Fly - Archytas? - Tachina

Tachinid Fly - Archytas? - Tachina
Elkton, Douglas County, Oregon, USA
September 19, 2008
Size: 1/2 inch +
For a week +, this fly with a very yellow face (or others just like it) was/were patrolling a 50 x 20 foot area of mowed grass between my apple and pear trees. It was never more than a foot or so off the ground.

I'm guessing it's a tachinid fly, possibly archytas and possibly a female (because of the eye size and placement).

Moved
Moved from Tachinidae.

Tachinidae.
Most likely the genus Tachina. I had my own specimens, virtually identical to this one, identified to that genus by a pro (Jim O'Hara). The golden "collar" seems to be diagnostic, at least in your neck of the woods.
