The males of mosquitoes and some related families have fuzzy antennae.

After getting bitten by a female, I vote the name be changed to "Sore-o-phora," not just pronounced that way:-)

 
Luckily
I've only seen them dead :) They're pretty big so I can only imagine how much that hurts.
