The black patches on the side of the thorax are not described by Roback(1), but he does mention they appear occasionally in another species of the same genus.

This is primarily an Eastern and tropical genus. Both images we have are from Oklahoma.

Nice-looking midge. Male of subfamily Tanypodinae, a species or at least a color form we don't have yet in the guide. I'll look it up later. A clearer view of the wing veins and feet would be helpful -- the wing veins to show exactly where a couple of the branches are, and the feet to show the shape of the fourth segment of the tarsus.

I'm sorry that I don't have another photo of this midge. I was only interested in moths at the time I took this, and did not really think it was worth much effort to get a good photo. Hopefully, I'll start paying more attention to all insects when photographing them. Thanks for your help.
