Size: ~20mm wingspan.
Came to black light. Maybe a Geometrid of some kind? (live oak/chaparral habitat).

at least I'm in the right genus :) I can't find a photo of H. a. to compare to, so I'll take your word!

ps. 2 minutes later--found the pinned specimen on MPG. I always skip the pinned ones b/c I have such a hard time using them to make ID's.
