midge

midge
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
February 1, 2009
Size: ~5mm
Another warm day - 40F - so more midges were out on the snow.

Moved
Moved from Midges.

I found the vein. It is very faint.

Foot
Do you have a closer view of the end of the legs? Any leg will do.

I want to call this Diamesinae but I don't see the M-Cu crossvein. The other diagnostic character for a winter midge is the shape of the fourth segment of the tarsus.
