Bee Fly? - Poecilanthrax

Bee Fly? - Poecilanthrax
Lake Avery, Rio Blanco County, Colorado, USA
August 21, 2008
Size: unknown size
Found near reserviour at 7000 feet elevation in NW Colorado.

ID
This is Poecilanthrax (Bombyliidae), possibly P. pilosus. Several species have the smokey wing that this one sports; P. pilosus is the abundant species of the Far West in this group, but up in the mountains of CO, P. tegminipennis would be a choice, as well.

Thank you,
Andy for the information.
