Caterpillar - Diprion similis

Caterpillar - Diprion similis
Merrimack, New Hampshire, USA
August 11, 2008
Size: about 1.5 cm
This photo was taken on a milkweed plant, but for a few days in late summer/early fall, there were hundreds of them all over the place. Not hairy or spiny.

Diprion similis?
Was the milkweed plant under a pine tree?
Looks a lot like

but I haven't checked other Diprionidae to see if they're similar.

yes
exactly what i saw
not under a pine tree but in the general area

sigh
why is it that all you contributing editors want to move my photos?!

We moved it out of Frass
and back to ID Request. We would have thought that would be what you wanted. But we can move it back to Frass if you prefer??

Moved
Moved from Frass.

why
any reason for frassing????

i don't think my photos are worth frassing. no one's are!

Frassed
Moved from ID Request.

Any particular reason for frassing
Seems like the image is not even a week old. Could be that Molly will get more of an ID if we give it some time.

Looks more like the larva of a sawfly
