Villa sp. - Villa - male

Villa sp. - Villa - Male
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
May 7, 2008
Size: BL ~12-13 mm
We saw this bee fly on Goldenhead (Acamptopappus sphaerocephalus) in the Scissors Crossing area, elevation about 2500 feet elevation.

It seems to be in the Villini tribe, but I cannot get it to genus. Any help will be much appreciated.

A guess: Villa sp.
Suspect this one when wings are clear and there's a small triangle behind the thorax. If you don't get an expert ID in a couple days, please move your post to Bee Flies.

Thanks for the tips on recognizing a Villa sp., Ron. It's very helpful in trying to separate the genera of these bee flies.

ID
Yes, this is Villa sp., a male. You can tell by the shiny epaulets.

Villa sp
Thanks for identifying this male Villa, Andy. I noticed the shiny shoulders and wondered about them. Now I know!
