Ants - Formica

Ants - Formica
Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA
July 12, 2008

Thank you Richard
for your detailed explanations. Much appreciated.

Moved
Moved from Ants.

Formica sp. (pallidefulva group) - workers and brood
Contrary to most Formicine Ants, pupae are "bare" (i.e., last instar larva don't spin a cocoon) in this group.
Larger pupae, including both bottom right, are obviously male pupae.
This one species could well be Formica incerta.
