North America and Mexico; most have western or southern ranges; east of the Mississippi, there are 4 southeastern spp. and 3 spp. ranging east into IL & IN(1)

Habitat

Mostly pocket gopher dung feeders(1)

Remarks

Members of this genus inhabit pocket gopher burrows and feed on gopher dung. Generally rarely seen or collected unless specifically sought after.
