Summer of 2008 was the first time i saw this superb moth, and not one, but two came to my lights! I personally think it is the prettiest of all the tiger moths! I have been searching for it for many years and i eventually found it in the most unexpected habitat: dry Artemisia tridentata scrubland! Arctia caja is a truly temperate moth, preferring colder regions of the world. Winter and spring of 2008 were unusually cold, wet and long and this may explain why i found it in that xeric habitat.
