Paravilla - Paravilla

Paravilla - Paravilla
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
April 27, 2008
Size: BL about 12 mm
This bee fly was found on Parish's Viguiera at Sentenac Canyon, on the same day and same flower that We saw a Paravilla cinerea, No. 229692. This fly vaguely resembles that Paravilla in body build, but the abdominal banding and half-darkened wings are very different.

ID
This is certainly Paravilla, a very typical member of that genus. I don't think I can ID it with confidence from this shot, but I lean toward P. deserta.

Paravilla sp.
It's very interesting to me that it is a Paravilla. When I just look at its photo and then the photo of the Paravilla cinerea from a distance, both on the same flower, it's almost like deja vu! Thanks so much for the ID.
