world's cutest wasp

world's cutest wasp
Pinellas County, Florida, USA
February 22, 2009
Size: 3mm
ID?
This guy is super tiny. I've always thought of wasps and other bugs as beautiful but this one also gets to be called cute.
Thanks.

splendid beast --
definitely way under the declared 3 mm. An encyrtid???

Encyrtidae, yes
Shape of head, large mesoscutellum and forewing venation are diagnostic. This shining pygmy illustrates the diversity and beauty of Encyrtid wasps in the warmer climates.

sensational wasps indeed
(glad i got it right, too)
I second Matt's 'World's Cutest' award
