Size: ~8mm total length.
Saw this guy in our garden on Stellaria media looks like another Eupeodes volucris . (live oak/chaparral habitat).

This is a male Eupeodes volucris indeed. Eyes meet just before the ocellar triangle, not visible at the picture.

ID to species looks good to me, but I'm no expert.
