Dissosteira carolina
Looks like a 4th instar nymph of a Carolina Grasshopper. The high crest on the pronotum with one deep cut is a good clue. Dissosteira spurcata is similar, and may occur in your area (but seems to be not recorded from that quite that far north). The coloring seems wrong for that one, and as I recall, the pronotal crest would probably be a bit more irregular in outline.
