A very large adult female Trapdoor Spider of the Genus Myrmekiaphila. This specimen was collected from a steep ravine that empties into Dykes Creek. The spider's burrow was located in a barren patch of sandy clay-like soil that was shielded from the elements by a hollowed-out tree. There were numerous other specimens of Myrmekiaphila within this relatively small area, ranging from tiny spiderlings to massive adults like the one pictured above.
