Mystery and fascination surround genus Agra.
See more. Too bad there is not also the standard perpendicular overhead view to better appreciate the characteristic very elongated/narrow shape of the forebody. Statement of body length would also be useful. I suspect quite rare in this country as this species appears restricted to tree canopies of neotropical TX. A welcome addition to BugGuide!

 
The Genus Agra Fabricius 1802
Hello All,
I have been working with this genus for several decades, so time to give you all some information about its species.
At present, there are 606 described species, all confined to the Western Hemisphere ranging from southern Texas to northern Argentina. In addition, I have in NMNH in my study material more than 2000 species, mostly undescribed -- obviously!
There are 4 species in southern Texas associated with the tree genus, Celtis, and found in the Sabel Palm Reserve near Brownsville; NONE of these is Agra oblongopunctata Chevrolat which is known only from Veracruz, MX. All known USA species are undescribed and are treated in my manuscript to be published in 2016.
Agra beetles are strictly arboreal and their predatory larvae occur under bark. In flight, adults use all of the forest strata, not just the canopy zone and are commonly collected in flight intercept traps (FIT) and at light (UV, MV, white).
