Author of genus is listed as Solier 1833 (nearctica.com) or as Serville in Dejean, 1833, (Ptosimina of North America).

Likely from Greek ptosis meaning to fall, droop. (Based on Internet searches.)

Range

Ptosimina of North America gives range of North American species: gibbicollis is widespread in east, idolynae is found in south-central states (including Texas), laeta in Texas, walshii in midwest.
