Those bright green attachments ...
... what are they?

not sure
was kind'a hoping nobody would ask :) - but figured it would come up. I can't quite tell if they are part of the insect or something attached - definitely don't look normal. A few thoughts come to mind - one is some sort of abdnormality in which the epidermis is "bubbled" up in those spots. Another is that (perhaps most likely) is some sort of parasite attached (they look rather like some sort of tiny green larvae or perhaps fat little worms?). Another thought, but I suspect not is that they are some sort of fresh droppings that stuck to the side. Regardless, I have a hunch that this little critter never made it to adulthood. Odds are somebody else will know, and hopefully add a comment or two.

Green Things
I was hoping somebody would ask, David. ;) I was thinking they might be some sort of tiny green larvae also, but they were definitely a little peculiar.

Asterocampa
Looks like a young larva. I'd say it's probably A. clyton.

Thanks again.
Thanks, David, your caterpillar expertise is very clear. Once again, I appreciate the quick id assistance.
