Not P. maculiventris
This is very unlikely to be P. maculiventris. P. maculiventris is an eastern species unrecorded in Alberta, and the humeral spines are generally much sharper. A ventral view would confirm ID

Still tentative about species
Thanks for providing that data. I didn't realize that! It's conspicuously absent from Maw (2000).
Still, without a ventral shot can we safely eliminate the more common P. brevispinus at this location? The humeral spines seem rather blunt for P. maculiventris. The other BugGuide record for Alberta is distinctly incorrect, so I'm hesitant to consider this identification accurate to species.

Podisus is the genus. Note dark spot in wing membrane, fairly diagnostic.
