A gorgeous representative of
A gorgeous representative of the genus Sigmoria, family Xystodesmidae, order Polydesmida, in an area of Georgia where there are no records of such. Could be one of several possible species or could be a new specie; impossible to tell from this dorsal photo. The photo is a bit out of focus to my eye but note the bunching of legs consistent with the milliped's walking gait. Rowland Shelley

The pic is a little out of focus. Thank you for your comment. These are not uncommon around here and I will try to get a better shot this summer. They roam at night, this was just after sunrise. We have been inundated by other centipedes here in the early summer.
