Pterocheilus - Pterocheilus hirsutipennis - female

Pterocheilus - Pterocheilus hirsutipennis - Female
Coyote Canyon, Anza Borrego State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
March 5, 2009
Size: 9mm
There's considerable hairiness on much of the thorax, and the head. Note the fringed, or 'feathery' palps, forming a basket-like structure for moving excavated material.
