scale insect?

scale insect?
Hondo, TX, Medina County, Texas, USA
March 15, 2009
Size: 3-4 mm
On the top side of TX Mt.Laural leaf. I pealed off the epidermis and was able to dislodge this one. It attached itself to a glass coverslip. Are the two black spots on the "front" of the animal its eyes? If you know of a good book on scale insect anatomy or URL please post. I did find http://www.sel.barc.usda.gov/ScaleKeys/index.html which is a key to scale insects and some info. Looks like this might be Family Coccidae.
