Virginian Tiger Moth with empty cocoon - Spilosoma virginica

Virginian Tiger Moth with empty cocoon - Spilosoma virginica
Puyallup, Pierce County, Washington, USA
Size: moth = 22 mm
March 18th, 2009 the moth has emerged. I believe it's early because it has been in the house, so I'm not posting the date. Female or male?

From Sept 21 to March 18 is approximately 6 months, and that's for a premie.

June 7th, and now I see these moths are out naturally.
