Horse Fly?

Horse Fly?
Michigan, USA
July 26, 2005
I was just wondering if anyone might be able to tell me more about this one. I've come to know them as horse flies, but I don't know what type this one is. Thank-you.

Pretty sure you're right
Either a horse fly or a deer fly, both of which are in the same family, Tabanidae.

Horse fly.
Tabanus or Hybomitra. Maybe Tony Thomas could say for sure.
