10 legged spider - Ummidia

10 legged spider - Ummidia
College Station, Brazos County, Texas, USA
March 19, 2009
Size: 1 1/4"
I found this while digging up a new flowerbed in my yard. It must have been under the soil (or nearly under) When we were trying to capture it, it shot gobs of silk on my son (he was not pleased.) Once in a jar with some dirt, it proceeded to create a silk nest with dirt glued to it.

8 legs plus
Actually the front most "legs" are called pedipalps and are in fact modified mouth parts found in all spiders. I would suggest looking in the folding door and trap door spider section of the guide, Mygalomorphae.
