Damsel Bug - Nabis americolimbatus

Damsel Bug - Nabis americolimbatus
Bethlehem, Grafton County, New Hampshire, USA
July 18, 2005

Nabis (Dolichonabis) americolimbatus
Has to be subgenus Dolichonabis by scutellar depressions, abdomen color, and length of hemelytra. From there, we can rule out nigrovittata nearctica by the length and rounded apices of the hemelytra. It also is highly improbable that this is true limbatus, which was somewhat recently reported from Newfoundland.

Moved from Nabis.

Nabis americolimbatus
Dan, thanks for all these Nabid identifications. I'll have to start paying attention to these bugs again when I'm in the field.

Moved
Moved from Dolichonabis.

Yes, Nabidae.
This also appears to be an adult that has reduced wings, something not uncommon in true bugs in general. Very nice image!

Dolichonabis sp.
Thanks for the info Tony. It's really close. I'm not sure about the exact species, but I'd say it's the right genus.

Nabidae
Sometimes I get the ID right. Thanks for this and the others again Eric.

Could this be Nabis flavomarginatus?
I've been trying to identify a nymph I saw in Ottawa, ON., and this was the closest I came my first go-round. However, on taking a further look, this photo of N. americolimbatus seems identical to N. flavomarginatus, as shown in numerous shots from Europe as well as N.A. Are there subtle points I'm missing, or is there a possibility this is the broad damsel bug instead?
