Bill states:
Largely replacing the coastal lyric cicada, var. virescens (typically found within a few miles of the coast), populations of T. lyricen occupying the Coastal Plain (both Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plains) are often quite large and boldly patterned.
Specimens collected in this region are unlike the smaller darker varieties seen in the more inland areas of the Southeast (i.e. Fall-line Hills, Piedmont, Cumberland and Appalachia) and belong to the typology known as T. lyricen f. lyricen. Material similar to this specimen can be found in the Coastal Plain of eastern NC, eastern SC, s. Georgia, s. Alabama and much of Mississippi, e. Louisiana and areas adj. to the Mississippi River proper.
