Tiny Fly - Macrocera - male

Tiny Fly - Macrocera - Male
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
March 24, 2009
Size: 4mm body length
Interesting features, including claspers.

Male gnat
The claspers make it a male. I think it is some sort of fungus gnat, possibly Macrocera (Greek for "big horn", probably in reference to the long antennae).

Macrocera
it is.

Long?
If I had included the antennae, you could not even see the clasper. I estimated the antennae 30 mm tip-to-tip. BTW I highly recommend Harbor Freight's Digital Caliper. You can set to read metric. If you wait, you can get on sale for $6.99.

Thanks, again for your help.
