larva shedding covering - Epicypta

larva shedding covering - Epicypta
Donalds, Abbeville County, South Carolina, USA
March 18, 2009
This is one of the larva shedding some of its "covering" which I assume consists of its own faecal material. When finished shedding the excess, dryer, material the larva moved away fully covered again.

They were found on dead wood. Does anyone know what sort of larvae do this?
