Elegant Sheep Moth - Hemileuca eglanterina - Male
Mt Emily ca. 5000 feet, near La Grande, Union County, Oregon, USA
July 4, 2005
Size: ~2.5 inch wingspan
On the way up to Mt Emily, we stopped at a mountain meadow. This beautiful critter was sitting on a stem in the bright sunlight -- impossible to miss!
