Bee Fly at Mud in California - Bombylius curtirhynchus - female

Bee Fly at Mud in California - Bombylius curtirhynchus - Female
Webb Canyon, ~2000 ft. altitude, Los Angeles County, California, USA
March 25, 2009
Size: 8 - 9 mm
This female took a break from nectaring at the wildflowers to alight on a moist spot of earth. She let me approach close enough to get a few shots. Not sure if it possible to get a specific ID, but I do have full-resolution images and other angles if they would be helpful. Thanks!

Mixed oak & chaparral habitat.
