Tiny Ants - Solenopsis molesta - female

Tiny Ants - Solenopsis molesta - Female
University of Guelph, Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada
March 27, 2009
Size: 1.0 mm
In a greenhouse. Tapinoma melanocephalum and Tetramorium caespitum are extremely abundant in there, as well as three species of Camponotus, but I discovered a tiny population of these minute ants under a rock. First thought was Monomorium, but I'm not sure.

Thief ants?
Uh-oh, that doesn't sound good. Thanks for the ID.

Not pharaoh ants, but
Solenopsis molesta. Note the two segmented antennal club and generally shiny surface (vs. three-segmented and with dull body in Monomorium pharaonis).

they look like...
pharoah ants to me.:)
