Ok got this one! The main ch
Ok got this one! The main characters are: the yellow stripe on the mesonotum is not very thick and the hind femur has a black ring. Also the abdomen has a typical coloration...

It's a bit oddly marked, but I think you're right.
Hope you get an expert ID on this one. It doesn't look like the other Toxomerus species to me.

Way to go.
Yep, top-down is the single best syrphid shot for ID purposes. Frontal shots are good to determine gender - eyes touching at the top says "It's a boy!"

 
A second opinion - Toxomerus geminatus for sure
The other candidate - Toxomerus marginatus - has a dot centered on the south end of the abdomen.

I am sure this is none of the species we have in bugguide so far. There are several more Toxomerus in the South and especially in Florida, and I should really work on them a bit more....
