Dytiscidae?
hey are you sure this isn't Dytiscidae? To me it looks like it probably has "false 4" segmented pro and mesotarsi, with the 4th segment very reduced and hidden in the lobe of the 3rd - not true 5 segmented as for Noteridae. And the metatarsal claw looks like it could be singular, vice double in Noteridae. Lastely, the metasterum looks completely different than the Suphisellus that I posted.

regardless, jolly fat little guy :)

I think you are right ^^
[embarrassed]I must have skipped a couplet when I was keying this out-Noteridae have 5 segmented fore and meso-tarsi; this specimen appears to 'have' 4 (Hydroporinae)...which means now I have alot more work to do now...

A Hygrotus
this was a tough one to decide upon genus-wise based on the images...likely H. turbidus given the somewhat broad appearance (though more elongate than H. sayi), lack of distinct markings on both pronotum and elytra, and small size; a new species to the guide :)

LeConte's type
seems like a good fit generally to LeConte's type.

Moved
Moved from Beetles.

Yes
Keys well to Sulphisellus from Merritt and Cummins.

Thanks Tim
I got lucky with my guess on the family:-)
