Anoplius depressipes

Found mid morning on brackish water. Appeared to be just fluttering about, until it latched onto a fishing spider. I lost it in grass in the water, so did not know where it ended up.

don't get an easier spider wasp ID than this! There are extralimital species that will do the same thing (a species from Japan does this, if I'm not mistaken), but A. depressipes is the only one in North America. Nice shots!

It's a pompilid and it's the only one of it's kind that targets fishing spiders (forgot the genus)..will have to check the chapter on Aquatic Hymenoptera from Merritt and Cummins.

Likely Anoplius depressipes- the only aquatic Aculeate wasp (other aquatic members are Parasitica)...but do wait for an expert to confirm.

Thank you. I get excited because I just capture the world around me. If it's a sight others are interested in or enjoy that's my just reward. I will wait for a confirmation. This was truly a sight. The wasp dragged that spider, in the water at least 30 feet before I lost them.
