Flower Devourer - Lytta magister

Flower Devourer - Lytta magister
Tucson, Pima Community College West Campus, Pima County, Arizona, USA
April 2, 2009
Size: >25 mm
Finally! I've been wanting to find this species for several years. Spotted this individual virtually inhaling flowers before my eyes. I think the flower is "scorpionweed," a species of Phacelia. I did collect the beetle after the photo op. I expected to see several more, but no, just the one....Imaged in late morning with a Canon SX10 IS in "auto" macro mode.
