Red and gray beetle - Enoclerus ichneumoneus
Penny's Bend Nature Preserve, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
April 4, 2009
Size: 10 mm long

Checkered Beetle
Looks like a Checkered Beetle to me. Probably Enoclerus inchneumoneus.

This seems right
Yes, this species looks like the right match.

There are several Enoclerus
that have this look, such as this one

Good call!
A really hard beetle to identify! Thanks so much.

wow
beautiful!

Thank you!
This is a new one for me.

Very interesting bug and nice photo
I'm quite the novice at bugging. My first photo posting of an Oil Beetle, I titled "Ant wasp beetle" -- because it seemed to have characteristics of all three. I think I would have titled this bug an "Ant spider beetle." :D (Even though it only has six legs, those legs sure look spider-like)--to a novice, anyway.
