Tarantula hawk on mesquite - Pepsis - Female
Tucson, Pima Community College West Campus, Pima County, Arizona, USA
April 2, 2009
Not positive which species this is, but it is most likely P. chrysothemis, our most common at this time of year. The mesquites on the campus are ornamental, and watered, so they bloom early and often. Imaged this with a Canon SX10 IS in "auto" mode, with zoom, then cropped the resulting image.
