Wood roach?

Wood roach?
Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA
April 5, 2009
Size: 13mm
Found under log miles from nearest dwelling. If a nymph, does that mean it overwintered outside in New England? Would that eliminate the southern species?
