Size: 13mm
Found under log miles from nearest dwelling. If a nymph, does that mean it overwintered outside in New England? Would that eliminate the southern species?

I do not think Smokey-brown Cockroach gets up this far north.

Visitor from the South?
I haven’t seen a lot of Smoky Brown cockroach nymphs, but the over-all appearance of your specimen suggests the genus
Periplaneta
(e.g. presence of ventral spines on mid and hind legs, large size of nymph). The lack of coloration of the pronotum really suggests
Periplaneta fuliginosa
, although I’m not certain how variable nymphs of rarer species are. An additional factor favoring smoky brown roaches is that they move around. This specimen could have hitched a ride in a box shipped from warmer areas perhaps?
