Unidentified beetle - Tricrania sanguinipennis

Unidentified beetle - Tricrania sanguinipennis
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
April 5, 2009
I found this beetle crawling along the ground in an area of sandy soil in a mixed deciduous/coniferous forest on the western edge of Ottawa, Ontario. I'm not sure of size except to say it was approximately 1/2 to 2/3 cm in length. It was moving quickly, hence I was unable to get a clear image. I've included one of the rear and back, not great, I'm afraid, but hoping it might help with ID. I've searched every source I have as well as a number of Coleoptera families here, but I can't seem to find out what it is, though am sure it is very common.

not too common
This is a meloid in the genus Tricrania. Nice find.

Nice indeed -- we have just one more image of this beetle

Identification of beetle
I am very pleased to have the ID on this beetle and also to be able to add a couple more images for this species.

Unidentified beetle
Thank you so much for your identification. I am very happy to know what this beetle is. I had looked at Chrysomelids but realized it was not one of those, and had looked at Meloidae because it reminded me of some I've seen, but again, I discounted that group. So, I am very grateful for your help.
