name
I found distribution data on the subspecies Bembix americana spinolae (see Guide page), but no info on the web of a genus named Epibembix (nor Epibembex, a presumed misspelling).

Epibembex
The Synoptic Catalog of 1951, page 1000,used that genus.

which subfamily?
happy to create species page and place this accordingly, but what's the higher-level classification of this within the Sphecidae?

couldn't find any internet resources to help.

Nyssoninae?
Pretty sure Bembicines are in the Nyssoninae. This specimen may be a different species. Individual populations vary greatly in color patterns.

Epibembex
The bembicines are currently classified in the Crabronidae, as are most groups we used to consider to be sphecids. They have their own subfamily, tribe and subtribe named for the genus Bembix. The proper spelling is "Epibembex," as originally described by Minkiewicz in a Polish journal in 1934. I have a specimen of spinolae identified by Karl Krombien in 1952, and he placed it in Epibembex, but I'm not familiar with the currently-accepted arrangement.
