Anthrenus lepidus?

Wow, Kevin...
...that makes two good ones in one day! Any more nice carpet beetles up your sleeve?

Hmmm...am I missing something here? Why are folks so please with a couple types of carpet beetles?

Side note: both the A. sophonisba and A. lepidus had this ?defense mechanism? of pulling in their legs and acting like they were dead if I disturbed them on the leaf or flower. I even lost one or two falling into the grass while trying to take their photos as they were pulling that trick.

Well...
If you look through the 7 pages or so of images for the Anthrenus genus you will see that the vast majority of images are of the Var*ied Carpet Beetle (which is all that I ever seem to see!). The A. sopho*nisba image that you posted was only the 2nd one submitted to the guide thus far... I don't have a working background in entomology and therefore don't really know which species are "good finds". I guess my own internal measure is usually how many other images of the species have already been posted by others.

Oh, and I too have seen that defense mechanism employed many times. (*grin*)

lepidus indeed
