Dragonfly - Somatochlora - female

Dragonfly - Somatochlora - Female
Powhatan County, Virginia, USA
July 31, 2005
Can anyone ID this? - Thanks

Female Somatochlora
With only a dorsal shot, I don't think this female Somatochlora emerald is identifiable. Using range, cerci length, and the clear wings as a rough guide, though, I think it can be narrowed down to Fine-lined or Clamp-tipped Emerald. Ski-tailed and Williamson's could be possible but have never been found in VA away from the Appalachians. Mocha should have tinted wings, and Treetop has shorter cerci.

Dragon
Puzzling at first. But I think this is a direct overhead shot of a Somatochlora species. Obscures the thoracic markings. Ski-tailed maybe.

Thanks
