Panurginae ? - Calliopsis helianthi - Male
Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area, Irwindale, Los Angeles County, California, USA
April 7, 2009
Size: ~ 4mm
One of the many tiny Hymentopterans (Calliopsis sp.?)I saw & find so fascinating that I'm planning a follow-up.

Moved

this may be a male of C. helianthi
was Euphorbia blooming on the ground in the area?

Yes,
Chamaesyce albomarginata, as well as Croton californicus.

that and tiny size are consistent with helianthi
(=euphorbiae)

It's definitely a Micronomadopsis (see Rozen, 1958).

For now I'll post to helianthi.

Was Eriodictyon in the area? If so we need to consider C. fracta.

Moved
Moved from Calliopsis.

Mm does look like a little Ca
Mm does look like a little Calliopsis to me.

Thanks, Gordon,
I've finally moved to the genus and hope that John Ascher will have something to add.
