Ground Beetle

Ground Beetle

Size: 9.5 mm
Running on sun-warmed cobblestones. Harpalus species, maybe even H. herbivagus?

Moved
Moved from Ground Beetles.

Despite your reasonably good image
I'm disappointed that I just can't decide among the three major choices of Harpalini, Pterostichini, or Zabrini, i.e., Amara - subgenus Curtonotus. For me this is another case where an expected easy examination of specimen would rescue this image. Perhaps someone can point us in the right direction.

Uh-oh.
Sorry, Peter, I have already mounted this one, so there's no fresh specimen. I'll try this summer to catch another one from the same location.

I accept "mounted" specimen
as well in case you are willing to donate specimen in return for accurate species identification. I will need to revise my profile recommendations on this matter. Easiest is to first rehydrate pinned specimen (in hot water), then lightly wrap in alcohol-dampened paper toweling placed inside small mailing container. Thanks.

Okay.
In that case I'll wrap it up and mail it out in a few days.
