Leptocerid - Ceraclea

Leptocerid - Ceraclea
Bow River, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
April 10, 2009
Size: ~5.5 mm body
Ceraclea larva cases can be mistaken for that of Molannid larvae; the cases of Ceraclea however, are plugged with silk at the posterior end; Molannid cases are open on both ends.
The larvae themselves can also be distinguished morphologically- Ceraclea larvae have a pair of comma-shaped markings/sclerites on the mesonotum.
