Gray Fly - male

Gray Fly - Male
Fontenelle Forest, Bellevue, Sarpy County, Nebraska, USA
April 11, 2009
Size: approx. 1/2"
This fly was present with several other fly species on a grape vine oozing sap. We think this might be a male because the eyes are touching on the top of the head. We appreciate any help with ID of this fly.

Thanks,

Loren and Babs Padelford

Muscid...
Wing venation excludes flesh and tachinid flies. This is a species of muscid fly, a male as you noted.

Not the final word, but...
check out Flesh Flies, Family Sarcophagidae. A further guess would be genus Sarcophaga.
