Moved from Chaoborus cooki.
Moved based on this email comment.
"I read the comments and identification. In fact C. trivittatus does live in ponds (as well as lakes). I'm including my revision of the subgenus that includes both cooki and trivittatus.
The species you have is C. trivittatus. C. cooki is a temporary pond species and pupae don't appear until later in the year.

Moved
Moved from Chaoborus. Still tentative, but I think it's better on the species page.

Habitat?
Would you characterize the habitat as a "lake", a "pond", or something else? Do fish live there?

Now I think this must be Chaoborus trivittatus or C. cooki.

Vernal pool
There weren't any fish in the pool.

Tenative ID
This is probably Chaoborus cooki, a vernal pool species. The related C. trivittatus is found in larger water bodies and knows how to avoid the fish that live there.
